- LAIKA presents Wildwood: The Exhibition designmuseum.org
Our household is looking forward to Wildwood. We'll be heading to this exhibition if we can make it down to London before January.
Via It's Nice That.

- I've gone back and forth between "we're so cooked" and "we're so back"... news.ycombinator.com
There will emerge a market for code written by humans. This has to happen: I can't prove it, but I can feel it. Despite vast improvements in the generative models, AI-generated art and music are still slop. AI-generated prose has gotten sloppier with phenomena like the much-mocked "Claudese". It's so obviously devoid of a human mind behind it that Zoomers and Alphennials are starting to use "that's so AI" as an insult. Despite the leaps-and-bounds improvements of recent models, I have to believe that AI code is slop too; the major difference between code and these other expressive forms is that we are far more tolerant of slop code: for the most part we just care if the damn thing works.
- Good Taste is Not What’s Oppressing Us in 2026 culture.ghost.io
Poptimism has become the perfect example of Gramscian hegemony™—where late-stage capitalism has so commandeered the human value system that well-meaning liberals believe their full-throated defense of art-for-money's-sake is somehow chipping away at the class structure.

We publish visual art and writing that bend time and genre and perspective, blur waking and dreaming life, find sublimity and absurdity in the everyday, magnify the senses, multiply and distort the possibilities of narrative, and interrogate power by breaking form.

- Cultural Stasis Produces Fewer Cheesy Relics like Rocky IV culture.ghost.io
A major part of cultural stasis, then, may stem from most artists refusing to embrace contemporary aesthetic choices. In fact, I would argue that the Nineties ushered in a paradigm of rationalized, naturalistic aesthetics anchored in the meta-knowledge that artworks have a longer shelf life when they feel “real” and avoid mannerist/over-indulgent faddish aesthetics.
- Do Ho Suh: Tracing Time review – an extraordinarily beautiful search for home - The Guardian theguardian.com
Suh is staggeringly various in his dreams and visions – this show stretches through many galleries without once flagging in its unceasing invention – but also in his evolving media. He works in charcoal, unleashing images of burning buildings, seen through haze or smoke. He works in watercolour to catch memories by the tail. There are full-scale 1:1 replicas of fittings in his West 22nd Street flat sculpted in silk, nylon and even transparent gelatin – a diaphanous basin, a ghostly light switch, backlit with LED so that they glimmer like the platonic ideals of these ordinary yet vital objects.
- Corporate Memphis - Wikipedia en.wikipedia.org
an art style named after the Memphis Group that features flat areas of color and geometric elements. Widely associated with Big Tech illustrations in the late 2010s and early 2020s, it has been criticized for its use in sanitising corporate communication, as well as being seen as visually offensive, insincere, pandering and over-saturated, though some illustrators have defended the style, pointing at what they claim to be its art-historical legitimacy.

These tools can’t create anything new. They spin together the most basic aesthetics of digital art into a slurry that feels immediately dated upon creation. Which is why, less than two years after DALL-E 2 launched to the public, ushering in a new age of AI, the content these tools produce has quickly gone from shiny new toy to visual shorthand for e-waste. They are basically a high-tech version of a Bitmoji.

Simply named " The Clock ", this piece of art is not only doing what is supposed to do "keeping time" But also is visually extraordinary. What you see, is not only the time that it shows, but all of the electronic parts that you would find inside the microchip of a wrist watch if you would normally be looking through a microscope.

"Again, money raised its head: to confront the unavoidable truth that you require financial stability to do what you want to do. And that to whine about that being unfair is perhaps childish and irresponsible because if you’re serious about your art, then you should be, well, serious about creating the conditions in which you can create your art.

Frictionless sharing has the same drawback as “effortless poetry”: its final products are often intolerable. It’s one thing to find an interesting article and choose to share it with friends. It’s quite another to inundate your friends with everything that passes through your browser or your app, hoping that they will pick something interesting along the way.

My error in the first place was to think I could make a convincing argument on purely theoretical grounds. What I was saying is that video games could not in principle be Art. That was a foolish position to take, particularly as it seemed to apply to the entire unseen future of games. This was pointed out to me maybe hundreds of times. How could I disagree? It is quite possible a game could someday be great Art.

"I remain convinced that _in principle_, video games cannot be art. Perhaps it is foolish of me to say "never," because never, as Rick Wakeman informs us, is a long, long time. Let me just say that no video gamer now living will survive long enough to experience the medium as an art form."
