- I've gone back and forth between "we're so cooked" and "we're so back"... news.ycombinator.com
There will emerge a market for code written by humans. This has to happen: I can't prove it, but I can feel it. Despite vast improvements in the generative models, AI-generated art and music are still slop. AI-generated prose has gotten sloppier with phenomena like the much-mocked "Claudese". It's so obviously devoid of a human mind behind it that Zoomers and Alphennials are starting to use "that's so AI" as an insult. Despite the leaps-and-bounds improvements of recent models, I have to believe that AI code is slop too; the major difference between code and these other expressive forms is that we are far more tolerant of slop code: for the most part we just care if the damn thing works.
- syntax - YAML: Do I need quotes for strings in YAML? - Stack Overflow stackoverflow.com
There have been some great answers to this question. However, I would like to extend them and provide some context from the new official YAML v1.2.2 specification (released October 1st 2021) which is the "true source" to all things considering YAML.

In this post I aim to give you a framework for how to reason about [errors and warnings] systematically, with lessons learned from my recent years of work on programming language tooling for thousands of engineers at Google.

Team leads are different. Your job, should you accept it, is to become what I’ve lovingly dubbed Shit Umbrella. Your goal is to find all of the peripheral stuff involved in getting the product out the door—important stuff, such as making sure the delivery schedule for the new servers makes sense for when you want to ship the product that needs them, or taking customer calls at 11 PM on a Sunday because their account quit working and they want to know why they should keep paying you, or figuring out when doing features the sales and support teams want makes financial sense—and then coming back and presenting a focused direction to all the developers so that they can get the features written without worrying about how they actually ship. You switch from doing the building yourself to enabling others to build stuff on your behalf.

We believe there’s a niche waiting to be filled by someone publishing well-written technical pieces longer than the average blog article but shorter than books and making them available in a variety of formats. We are aiming at depth more than absolute timeliness; there are already plenty of outlets for the latest tech buzz.
This codelab shows how web application vulnerabilities can be exploited and how to defend against these attacks. The best way to learn things is by doing, so you'll get a chance to do some real penetration testing, actually exploiting a real application.
- maetl . code is not inevitable maetl.net
"The distinction between good code and crap code is essentially literary. Good code emerges from an intuitive ability to separate structure from intention – to compose minimalist flows of well formed cues that balance direct statements of logic with modular flexibility. Holistic, pattern based thinking is important, treating the locality of a single statement in the context of its position in a larger system, and also understanding that this position is fluid, and may change as the system changes and grows." This is great.
- phpsprockets - Google Code code.google.com
Sprockets are hierarchically created objects that can be progressively, logically defined and then rendered when needed. Sprockets play nice, coexisting with other code generators and template systems, and provide a great addition to MVC frameworks.
