One of the movement's most fundamental ideas was to ask what the world might look like in the future "if we get it right" – then work out backwards how to get there. Generally speaking, the Transition vision is of a move towards self-sufficiency at the local level, in food, energy and much else, but the specifics of what "getting it right" might look like were never handed down from above.

- Deploy Java Apps With Docker = Awesome | Atlassian Blogs blogs.atlassian.com
Docker provides a streamlined user interface and API over the very cool lxc (Linux Containers) and aufs (advanced multi layered unification filesystem) to configure, spin up, down, set and replay light weight vm-like containers.
More for the Docker than the Java.
Using containers is a bit like trying to use git using only commands like update-index and read-tree, without familiar tools like add, commit and merge. Docker provides that layer of “porcelain” for LXC, turning containers into something that are much easier to think about, manipulate and distribute.

Many of us are fortunate to live in high bandwidth regions, but there are still large portions of the world that do not. By keeping your client side code small and lightweight, you can literally open your product up to new markets.

- Evergreen Browsers : Tom Dale tomdale.net
The good news is that both Internet Explorer and Firefox have adopted this [evergreen] strategy, and now we just have to wait for the last generation of non-evergreen browsers to die out. But even that is happening more rapidly than you might think.

Dotenv loads environment variables from .env into ENV. Storing configuration in the environment is one of the tenets of a twelve-factor app. Anything that is likely to change between deployment environments–such as resource handles for databases or credentials for external services–should be extracted from the code into environment variables.
But it is not always practical to set environment variables on development machines or continuous integration servers where multiple projects are run. Dotenv load variables from a .env file into ENV when the environment is bootstrapped.

One of the mistakes I see entrepreneurs make is they move to business model before locking down strategy. The way I like to think about this is get the product right first, then lock down the strategy of the business, then figure out the business model.

[this is good]
By simply applying ‘text-align: justify’ to the container, and giving the child elements ‘display: inline-block’ and a percentage width, you’ll never have to deal with horizontal margins ever again! (Oh and did I mention, when using this trick, you’ll also never need to use float on your elements ever again, so you can wave goodbye to those ignominious clearfixes and clear divs too!)
Clever, mildly hacky.
One of the best articles I've read so far this year.
My definition of a good solution to a complex problem is one that solves the immediate problem, is built to last and generates more potential than it uses.
The more I think about complex problems, the more I get convinced that the built to last part is critical. Almost all failures are caused by not aiming for durability.
