- Is Gmail secure enough for my private emails? theguardian.com
At the moment, if you want an alternative to Gmail, your best bet is probably FastMail, which is owned by Opera Software (Opera is Norwegian), registered in Micronesia (.fm), and based in Australia. Unfortunately, according to Wikipedia: "Its servers are located in New York City with a backup in Norway."

You can’t substitute experience with process and that is exactly what agile followers end up doing. Take away the experienced people and you have a lot of people executing the rituals of scrum, kanban, or whatever without really understanding what they are doing. The assumption that that will work at all is naive at best and actually rather delusional.

- This column will change your life: the truth about inefficiency theguardian.com
Inefficiency is subjective: what's experienced as inefficiency by me or you is perfectly efficient, actually, just so long as you're a phone company and your goal is making money. Voicemail thus has much in common with "dark patterns", a term coined by the tech consultant Harry Brignull, to refer to the sneaky ways in which websites "trick users into doing things they might not otherwise do, [such as] signing up for recurring bills". As with voicemail, these often look like incompetent design, but they're not. [...] What feels like tiresome inefficiency, born of sloppiness, really arises because it serves someone's interests.

The heading is important. If you can’t think of a suitable heading for the content within a section element, there’s a good chance you shouldn’t be using the section element at all. Time to consider a div instead.

The property market is no longer about people making a long-term investment in owning their shelter, but a place for the world’s richest people to park their money at an annualized rate of return of around 10 percent. It has made my adopted hometown a no-go area for increasing numbers of the middle class.

The whole point of 'digital', the very opportunity of it, is that you don't have to segment people like this. They segement themselves by looking for the thing they want to do.
If your primary focus is on user needs then your task is simple - work out the specific thing people are trying to do and then make it as simple and quick for them as possible. Your design, your engineering, your research, your testing are all then focused on making that one thing work.

"Again, money raised its head: to confront the unavoidable truth that you require financial stability to do what you want to do. And that to whine about that being unfair is perhaps childish and irresponsible because if you’re serious about your art, then you should be, well, serious about creating the conditions in which you can create your art.
