- Why mobile web apps are slow | Sealed Abstract sealedabstract.com
I’m not going to guarantee that this article will convince you, nor even that absolutely everything in here is totally correct–it’s impossible to do in an article this size–but I can guarantee this is the most complete and comprehensive treatment of the idea that many iOS developers have–that mobile web apps are slow and will continue to be slow for the forseeable future.

Ferriss' four-step method involves: deconstructing a skill to its essential parts, selecting the most valuable factors to learn, sequencing, and setting stakes to motivate you. This is very similar to Josh Kaufman's technique to learn anything in 20 hours.
Memory research shows that the most effective and efficient time for a new fact to be remembered is right before you were about to forget it.

Once Facebook had proven that it was possible to be the one-stop-shop for your user’s every need, that became the model to emulate. Startups stopped seeing themselves as just one part of a bigger web. Now they wanted to be the only service that their users would ever need …just like Facebook.
I miss the old days.

One of the movement's most fundamental ideas was to ask what the world might look like in the future "if we get it right" – then work out backwards how to get there. Generally speaking, the Transition vision is of a move towards self-sufficiency at the local level, in food, energy and much else, but the specifics of what "getting it right" might look like were never handed down from above.

- Deploy Java Apps With Docker = Awesome | Atlassian Blogs blogs.atlassian.com
Docker provides a streamlined user interface and API over the very cool lxc (Linux Containers) and aufs (advanced multi layered unification filesystem) to configure, spin up, down, set and replay light weight vm-like containers.
More for the Docker than the Java.
Using containers is a bit like trying to use git using only commands like update-index and read-tree, without familiar tools like add, commit and merge. Docker provides that layer of “porcelain” for LXC, turning containers into something that are much easier to think about, manipulate and distribute.

- Evergreen Browsers : Tom Dale tomdale.net
The good news is that both Internet Explorer and Firefox have adopted this [evergreen] strategy, and now we just have to wait for the last generation of non-evergreen browsers to die out. But even that is happening more rapidly than you might think.

Dotenv loads environment variables from .env into ENV. Storing configuration in the environment is one of the tenets of a twelve-factor app. Anything that is likely to change between deployment environments–such as resource handles for databases or credentials for external services–should be extracted from the code into environment variables.
But it is not always practical to set environment variables on development machines or continuous integration servers where multiple projects are run. Dotenv load variables from a .env file into ENV when the environment is bootstrapped.
