- Just Fucking Use Go - Blain Smith blainsmith.com
Write the fucking monolith. One Go binary. One Postgres. One Redis if you absolutely must. Serve HTML on the same port that serves your JSON API. Run it on a single VPS that costs less than your monthly oat milk budget. Scale that to ten thousand requests per second without breaking a sweat because Go was literally designed for this and goroutines are cheap as hell.
Great rant. HN comments on article are also fun.

- DevOps is Bullshit blog.massdriver.cloud
DevOps started as a well-intentioned set of practices and culture. Over the years, it has devolved into an unholy beast of division and tunnel vision.
- The Market for Lemons - Infrequently Noted infrequently.org
Not only are new services being built to a self-defeatingly low UX and performance standard, existing experiences are pervasively re-developed on unspeakably slow, JS-taxed stacks. At a business level, this is a disaster, raising the question: "why are new teams buying into stacks that have failed so often before?"

- QuirksBlog: The iPhone obsession quirksmode.org
"The iPhone has become an obsession. If we don’t pay attention, we’ll have a mobile web that only works on the iPhone. And then we’ll have the real mobile web that wasn’t made by us and doesn’t give a shit about web standards and best practices." Overstating things somewhat but still a useful reminder.
"This, then, is my current thinking about embedded web fonts: FUCK THE FOUNDRIES." Mark Pilgrim rants.
- Stubbornella » Blog Archive » CSS doesn’t suck, you’re just doing it wrong. stubbornella.org · Archived on
You think of people who do know CSS as designers, not giving any credit to the engineering prowess required to tame the stylesheet of a multinational corporation because (self-taught as they are) most true front-end gurus don’t speak the same language as you do. Their skill appears to be a black-art, some kind of magic, or internalized instinct for browser flaws. This is your guess anyway, because you simply can’t communicate with them.
- Cappuccino is not designed for building web sites,... · Ben Ward's Scattered Mind micro.ben-ward.co.uk · Archived on
When I hear a friend talking about learning Cappucino I react as if they’ve been tricked out of their money by a con-artist on a street corner. I think they’ve been conned out of true knowledge, duped down the wrong path. “Don’t be like those schmucks learning HTML! Just take these magic beans!”.
Interesting rant about microformats.
