Odd things happen to the hormones in May; and although people did not know about hormones, they were entirely familiar with their symptoms… but May was not entirely good. Some days in the medieval calendar were believed to bring bad luck, and early May is recurrently dangerous.

- Time Zone guardian.co.uk
The Guardian’s Charlie Porter on obsession-inducing 24.
Most of us never expected to get caught up in a series that covers essentially the same ground as an average Tom Clancy novel … but in 24, where a clock at the bottom of the screen proves that in each episode we see an hour’s worth of real-time action, the subject matter is almost irrelevant – we’d watch golf if it was done with the same suspense.

- More on the Warp front: the new Tortoise album, Standards,… brainwashed.com
More on the Warp front: the new Tortoise album, Standards, will be out 'early 2001' - an essential purchase, I think. I can't find any more info, though. The Brainwashed site is strangely quiet at the moment. If you know more, please tell me!
- Amusing snippet from the latest Warp mailout, regarding… warprecords.com
Amusing snippet from the latest Warp mailout, regarding Chris Morris' forthcoming Blue Jam album:
Interestingly the MVC chain of music & video stores in the UK have "declined to stock the album" stating that it does not "fit their image as family stores". This surprised us somewhat as several of the sketches are all about families.
Arf!
How forgetful of me! My sister's boyfriend has some buttons that you must push!
Quote from a recent geek -> not-as-geek phone conversation: "but you've got all that back-end shit going on, haven't you..?"
Ooh, a new Plaid mix! Not as good as the Midsummer mix (the sound quality is pretty awful) but definitely worth a listen.
On reflection, I may not be the best qualified to comment on the quality of sound at the Spitz last night. As a friend just pointed out, I am to all intents and purposes half-deaf until at least next Tuesday. I blame years of extended headphone abuse...
Mo'Wax have a cool tactile toy on the front of their (otherwise nearly empty) site. I like to pretend that the guy is James Lavelle, and then I can bash his head against the frames... strangely satisfying...

Transformers - The Movie - available on video! How cool is that? I saw it a few weeks ago, and it was a little alarming to read the credits (Leonard Nimoy, Judd Nelson, Robert Stack, Eric Idle and Orson Welles all feature). I'll spend the rest of the day working on my Transformers impression...
- I don't need this so much any more having gone cold turkey… verbosity.wiw.org
I don't need this so much any more having gone cold turkey for a bit, but if you're in the middle of Quake addiction, then find out how to kick the Quake habit. Thanks to Chris for this one, although I suspect he only sent it to me because I kept shooting him in the back with a grenade launcher. I daresay he could beat me in pretty much any other game out there, though ;)
